The director of the trilogy of musical films that launched Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens to stardom, Kenny Ortega, points to the possibility that there is a fourth delivery with new actors.
After the last movie of the trilogy came out in 2008, High School Musical fans were eager to see what happened to the lives of Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and also meet new East High School students. And before the incessant demand of more histories, Disney and the director of the films, Kenny Ortega, are thinking to return to the saga and to make a fourth delivery.
It has been almost ten years since the release of the third and final installment of the saga of films ‘High School Musical’, with which the Disney factory definitively said goodbye to the characters that catapulted to stardom to actors like Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale while leaving deeply saddened those adolescents who for years enjoyed their adventures.
For that reason, both the US multinational and the director who was in charge of directing and choreographing the already classic trilogy, Kenny Ortega, would now be considering resuming such a successful formula to give a good joy to the not so young followers of the franchise and, above all, to gain new audience.
Of course, to achieve this, it will be fundamental to “bring a new generation of actors” who live up to their predecessors and, evidently, tell stories from an approach more in line with current times and make the most of the prevailing tendencies between the adolescent public of today. Kenny Ortega revealed exclusively:
“I think the Disney Channel and the company are very interested in doing ‘High School Musical 4’, which is how we are calling the project. but I think it would be much more convenient to bring a new generation of actors to the public to discover new faces”
However, he had the green light to make a fourth installment a decade ago, Kenny Ortega would not have been surprised at all that the writers would had thrown inventiveness to make sure that the original characters, who finish their stage in the institute at the end of the third, they would have stayed a little more in the last course.
“We could have done it like that, for some reason they would have had to stay another year. Making a reunion film would be much more difficult, we should move too many strings to power to give people power”
, he joked in the same conversation.
The director revealed that ten years ago it would have been easier to give him a continuity with the original actors, since it would have been possible to invent some history for Zac Efron so that it continued in the school. For him, now it is impossible to bring those characters like Ashley or Vanessa.
For now, High School Musical is just a project and has not yet started to formally work on it, but it is estimated that it could be another great Disney success for the younger generation.
Even if High School Musical fourth installment is in the plans, it will take at least 6-12 months before we can see it on out T.V. Since, the filming has not started and assuming it would start by the end of 2017 or early 2018, we can expect to see the fourth part earliest in the last quarter of 2018.
It is a good news, but many fans have not taken this news happily as it is confirmed that Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and all the past characters will not be present. Lets hope that this fourth installment would be more entertaining then the first three parts.
